- The near-bottom imaging capability of ARGO II, a fiber-optical, acoustic towed camera system was used to obtain video footage of active and inactive hydrothermal vents, vent animals, lava flows of different ages and types, and fissures.
- Images were viewed by ARGO II’s forward looking camera (swath width ~16m) as the vehicle was towed approximately 9 meters above the seafloor.
- Each observation was “stamped” with the time of observation as well as an x-y coordinate.
