~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to ArcGMT (for UNIX machines only) v. 2.0 (2002), with contour file conversion! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To use ArcGMT, the following must be in your path: * ArcInfo Workstation 8.x or 9.x * GMT v. 3.0 or higher Unpacking the tar file with 'tar xvf arcgmt.tar' will produce 2 directories: "arcgmt_ai" for Arc/INFO users "arcgmt_av" for ArcView users To Install and Run ArcGMT primarily for use with ArcInfo Workstation: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (1) Copy the files in "arcgmt_ai" to your working directory where grids, coverages, and/or files need to be converted. - be aware that ArcInfo may have trouble recognizing file and directory names with a combination of upper- and lowercase characters (2) Start Workstation ArcInfo. (3) At the "Arc:" prompt type: &r arcgmt To Install and Run ArcGMT primarily for use with ArcView 3.x: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (please note that the ArcView 3 version was developed several years ago only as a prototype and does NOT run as smoothly as the ArcInfo version. You need ArcView v. 3.0a or higher with Spatial Analyst) (1) Copy the files in "arcgmt_av" to your working directory where grids, coverages, and/or files need to be converted. (2) Move the file "arcgmt.avx" to the directory where your system extensions for ArcView reside. This is normally $AVHOME/ext. (3) Start ArcInfo. (4) At the "Arc:" prompt type: &type [iacopen]; arcview arcgmt.apr (5) After the ArcView project opens, click on the "Scripts" icon ** Steps (6) and (7) below need only be done ONCE, the very first time that you use ArcGMT ** (6) Open the script "ArcGMT.GMTtoArc" - scroll down to where it says "CHANGE the server name below to your own machine" - do so and then click the "check" button in the Scripts button bar to recompile the script (7) Do the same for the scripts "ArcGMT.ArctoGMTf" and "ArcGMT.ArctoGMTg" (8) You should now be all set! (9) If you don't want to use "arcgmt.apr" you can start with a new or existing project and check the box to enable the ArcGMT extension. However you must still go through steps (6) and (7) to change the scripts the very first time that you use ArcGMT. (10) Repeat Steps (3) and (4) for each subsequent ArcView session using ArcGMT. -- D. Wright, dawn@dusk.geo.orst.edu Last updated: February 2, 2007
