Geographic Information Scientists Meet with Six Federal Agencies

Washington, February 8, 2000

Members of the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) met this afternoon at the Capitol Hill Club with representatives from six agencies of the federal government that are funding geographic information science or geographic technology projects.

As part of the dialogue, each agency representative identified how funding of university research has helped it advance its mission, described currently funded projects involving GI science or technologies, and mentioned upcoming funding opportunities in the context of its requirements.

Participating federal agencies and their representatives included:

UCGIS is a non-profit consortium of universities and other research institutions committed to advancing understanding of geographic processes and spatial relationships through improved theory, methods, technology and data.
