GIS and GIScience at Oregon State

Oregon State faculty members, researchers, and graduate students are involved in research, teaching, and development of GIS and GIScience within a number of departments throughout the university. These include the departments of Geosciences, Forest Engineering, Forest Science, Forest Resources, Bioresource Engineering, Computer Science, Civil, Construction, & Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Crop and Soil Science, as well as the the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences. We have one of the most active programs in the Pacific Northwest.

Oregon State is also one of six founding members of the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS), nationally recognized as the premier academic organization guiding GIS research and curriculum development in the United States. Each UCGIS member institution has named two official delegates, who serve on the UCGIS Council, vote at national UCGIS meetings, and may hold UCGIS offices. Each institution may also name up to several Alternates, who will be informed of UCGIS business issues and who may represent the institution if one or both of the official delegates are unable to attend a meeting.
