Application and analytical issues in geographic information systems (GIS) for oceanographic data, particularly data modeling (see below), spatial analysis, and data interoperability.

Marine data modeling and ocean metadata, ontologies, vocabularies, informatics
Cyberinfrastructure, particularly geographic/geospatial semantic web issues and tools, web portal and services (e.g., PNAS paper)
Processing, production, visualization, and interpretation of seafloor maps based on multibeam bathymetry, sidescan sonar, towed camera imagery, and submersible observations.
Benthic terrain and habitat characterization, especially on coral reefs
Marine sanctuary exploration and mapping | results and data

Advancing partnerships, collaborative platforms, and knowledge networks in the Earth Sciences, particularly via the Esri Science Portfolio, National Academy of Sciences and the Deep Ocean Observing Strategy.

Advocacy and public testimony for Oregon Territorial Seafloor Mapping (mapping launched in August 2009)
