Current Research Interests/Projects

• Application and analytical issues in geographic information systems (GIS) for oceanographic data, particularly data modeling (see below), spatial analysis, and data conversion.
• Marine data modeling and ocean metadata, ontologies, vocabularies, informatics

• Cyberinfrastructure, particularly geographic/geospatial semantic web issues and tools, web portal and services (e.g., Cyberinfrastructure for GIScience Workshop)

• Processing, production, visualization, and interpretation of seafloor maps based on multibeam bathymetry, sidescan sonar, towed camera imagery, and submersible observations.

• Benthic terrain and habitat characterization, especially on coral reefs

• Marine sanctuary exploration and mapping | Recent results and data
• The Oregon Coastal Atlas, in collaboration with the State of Oregon's Ocean-Coastal Management Program and Ecotrust
• Advocacy and public testimony for Oregon Territorial Seafloor Mapping
